About the region:

Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand, located on Cook Strait at the south end of the North Island. The region includes the cities of Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt and Porirua, with a combined population of some 460,000. The cities surround a beautiful harbour with prominent hills and associated attractive beaches, coastal and hill scenery, and forests. The climate is changeable, with temperatures varying between summer 28° C maximum in summer and usually 8° C in winter, with some frosts. The best months to visit are February to April and October to November for better weather. Wellington City is noted for its cultural features and events, art galleries, museums, shopping, restaurants, cafes, all in a compact city centre. Major features are the National Museum Te Papa, Parliament Buildings, the Museum of City and Sea, and the harbour side walk. The other cities also have excellent museums and features. Also worth visiting are the Karori Bird Sanctuary (Zealandia), the Botanical Gardens with city views, and the Otari-Wilton Native Plant Reserve, along with other parks, gardens and walkways.

About the exchanges:

We meet our Ambassadors at the airport, railway station, or ferry terminal, depending on how they arrive, and go to a welcoming get-together before taking them home.  Our members are located in all four cities. We arrange at least one all-day outing to explore different parts of the region, plus a farewell dinner for our guests. We allow the Ambassadors to spend time with their hosts, and to do things of personal interest. If a group requests a special activity, this can be arranged at an extra cost. Pot luck dinners involve other club members. We aim to give Ambassadors a memorable experience and new friendships.
